Not so fast Penn Brewery

It looks like the restaurant from the Penn Brewery won’t be closing today. The Post Gazette is reporting that it will stay open for an indeterminate (or, more likely, undetermined) amount of time.
It’s not yet auf Wiedersehen for Penn Brewery. The restaurant on Vinial Street on the North Side will remain open while the company continues to seek a new address.
The restaurant is hoping to eventually re-open elsewhere in the City, but for now, they’re still in the same location.

That having been said, the brewers have all been fired and all brewing has been taking place in Wilkes-Barre for a while now. This is just the restaurant that we’re talking about–and it’s a restaurant whose placement on the culinary map is pretty far from my tastes. That having been said, it’s a worthy destination for St. Patrick’s day–at least in the “we serve beer and host an Irish-Celtic band” sense. With this extension their stay at the brewery, it sounds like that will be a possibility this year.
Actually, the most interesting detail in the article is that all of their brewing equipment (sans bottling line) is still for sale. Anyone looking to start up a new regional brewery?

Hey Mike, the brewery must have heard the outrage in your blogging.

Does East End Brewing Co have food, too? How does that place work?

There’s no food at East End Brewing Company. It’s just Scott in what I’ll call a “brew cave.” There are several beers on tap for tasting. If you want food and East End beer, then you could try the Map Room which has East End on tap (exclusively?). There are also a number of local restaurants that tend to have at least something on tap from East End.

Another good place for East End brews and food is Kelly’s Bar & Lounge.
