What happened to the Penn Brewery Microbrewfest?

When I see an event off in the future that I’m interested in attending, the first thing I do is add it to a “possibilities” calendar that I maintain in iCal. Glancing over the next few weeks on that calendar, I noticed that the Penn Brewery “Microbrewfest” was fast approaching. That seemed odd, given that I hadn’t heard about it anywhere in the Pittsburgh food media. I pay close attention to Pittsburgh food happenings, so something seemed awry.
Sure enough, a quick stroll over to the Penn Brewery site, shows the following in-line pop-up:
You’ll want to make a point to actually read it the first time it appears. The site leaves a cookie in your browser that prevents the announcement from appearing on future re-loads until you quit your browser.
That’s certainly not a very informative announcement. I know the past year has been filled with twists and turns for Penn Brewery, so a new hurdle or reorganization doesn’t seem completely unexpected. What seems odd to me is the speed with which the event was canceled and the lack of coverage that cancellation seems to be getting.
Am I the only to not know the story here?
