21st Street is worth a shot. My compromise: I order all my beans from La Prima and head over to 21st Street for coffee when I’m in the strip. Of course, I’m rarely in the strip these days.

Penn Ave Fish Co is one of my favorite places in the Strip. Everything we’ve ever gotten from there for preparation at home has been great, including oysters.

I’ve not had 21st St. coffee. I would feel like I was stabbing La Prima in the back.

You caught me. I used to work in the strip, and Peace Love Donuts is about the only place out there I hadn't tried. In the spirit of seeing how they stacked up, I checked them out. I'm not typically a big fan of donuts, but I gave them a shot with an open mind. So why don't I list some of my favorite Strip destiniations... - Enrico Biscotti -- (excellent brunch) - 21st Street Coffee -- (best coffee in the strip) - Colangelo's -- (a standing-only lunch and excellent cookies) - Cafe Raymond -- (best sandwich shop in the 'Burgh) - Roland's Seafood Grill -- (best beer options in the Strip) - Penn Avenue Fish Company -- (best seafood stew in Pittsburgh)

Between the reviews at Urbanspoon and the political views (and the price, which seems outrageous, and I’m not typically one to blink at high prices if I’m getting true quality), I think I’ll pass. I suspect we’ll stay with our usual suspects in the strip like Enrico and Colangelo’s.

As an aside, some of the positive reviews on Urbanspoon sound fake/planted. Nearly all are from 1st time reviewers and all say “so happy to support a local business!” Um, you’re in the Strip District, look around, nearly everything there is a small, locally-owned business.

Part of the controversy revolves around the seemingly liberal name of the store, which some see as a “bait and switch lure” to attract progressive customers.

Whatever the reason for the name, the man has a right to his opinion, but he won’t be getting any of my “pink dollars”.

Here’s the google cache of his blog posts. Apparently, he hates gay people so much he pulled his daughter out of her Christian college because they were letting gay students enroll.

I understand that the owner of every business I frequent isn’t going to see eye to eye with me on every issue, but some of this blog’s content is so outrageously hateful, it’s hard to believe he put his own name in the url and mentioned his business in the content. All while disingenuously espousing hippie values! He was asking for this.

I don’t think the wild response on urban spoon is because of the chaos and general lack of line sanctity..Most of the response I am seeing and hearing is from folks who are saying they will not go to the place because of the owners opinions of certain lifestyles he finds sinful and unacceptable.. Had you been able to read the blog he had written in regard to minority groups rights and his thoughts regarding those issues, you would have been able to draw your own conclusions(He has taken it down due to the wild response to his lame comments) . I would say to read the reviews but he also keeps taking anything that is not positive off the Urban Spoon site .. Always research before you assume WHY groups are responding in a negative way.. You might eat your words..and certainly not this mans donuts..
